Connect your Google Business Profile
Linking Google is the single most important setup step. It's what lets newReview import your reviews, monitor for new ones, and post replies in your name.
Before you start
You'll need the Google account that has owner or manager access to your Google Business Profile. If a marketing agency or former employee owns the profile, contact them first — you can't connect a profile you don't have access to.
If you're not sure which Google account has access, open business.google.com in an incognito window and sign in. The account that sees your business listed there is the one to use.
Step 1 — Open the connector
From the dashboard, open Visibility → Profile and click Connect Google. A Google sign-in popup will open.
Step 2 — Sign in and grant permissions
Sign in with the account that owns your profile. Google will ask you to confirm two permissions:
- See and manage your business information. Lets us read your profile and reviews.
- Manage your business reviews. Lets us post replies on your behalf.
Both are required. We never modify your profile content (address, hours, photos, etc.) — only reviews.
"Google hasn't verified this app" warning? Click Advanced → Go to newReview (unsafe). Google flags any app that hasn't gone through their multi-month verification queue; we're in it. This is safe — you're connecting to your own profile.
Step 3 — Pick the right location
If your Google account manages more than one location, you'll see a list. Tick the location you want to connect, then continue. You can connect additional locations later from the same screen — see Multi-location setup.
Step 4 — Wait for the first import
Once connected, newReview pulls your existing review history. A handful of reviews import in seconds; hundreds can take 2–3 minutes. The dashboard will show "Importing…" while it runs and then flip to your current star rating.
Replies you've already posted on Google come across with the original timestamp, so your reply rate is accurate from day one.
What happens next
- New reviews appear within minutes. Google's API notifies us in near real time, so a customer leaving a review at 9:03 typically shows in your inbox by 9:05.
- Reply directly from newReview. Any reply you post inside the app appears on Google publicly. See Replying to reviews.
- Star rating + count on your dashboard. Updates in real time as new reviews land.
Disconnecting
If you ever want to disconnect, open Visibility → Profile. Your historical review data stays in newReview, but no new reviews will sync until you reconnect.
Troubleshooting
"This Google account doesn't manage any business profiles."
You're signed in with the wrong account. Sign out of all Google accounts in your browser, then try again with the account that has access at business.google.com.
"Permission denied" or the popup closes immediately
Your browser is blocking popups. Allow popups from app.newreview.co, then retry. Safari users: also check Settings → Websites → Pop-up Windows.
Reviews aren't importing
Give it 5 minutes. If the count still shows zero and you know you have reviews on Google, disconnect and reconnect — that re-runs the import. Still stuck? Email us with your Google Business Profile URL.
Multiple locations, but only some imported
You connected the account but only ticked some locations during step 3. Open the connector again and add the missing ones — see Multi-location setup.
